Here is another article that you may find useful:

Probably almost every human being has at least once in their life experienced a sun burn.

What starts as a pleasant lying on the beach, working in the garden or staying out in the soothing warm rays of the sun can in a few hours turn into an unpleasant and painful burn of the skin.

The first sensation of sunburn can start anywhere from 30 minutes after the exposure to the UVA and/or UVB rays and up to 6 hours after. The most unpleasant sensations are usually noted in 12 to 24 hours after the exposure.

So what is sunburn? Sunburn is a skin damage that happens due to that at some point our skin cells – melanocytes – ceased to produce enough of the melanin pigment needed to protect the skin from the UVA and/or UVB rays. Just like any skin burn, sunburn manifests as an irritation of the skin and a skin damage of various degrees. It may be a slightly painful reddening of the skin or extremely painful water blisters on the skin.

Other common symptoms of severe sunburn may include dehydration, chills, fever, and nausea.

Sun in moderation is very beneficial for the skin of a human. Sun helps to form Vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D participates in the growth and the regeneration of the cells. Scientists have proven that prolonged deficiency of the Vitamin D can actually cause the development of a skin cancer.

Sun in moderation is a great way for people with psoriasis to temporarily get rid of their psoriatic lesions, due to that the sun rays suppresses the inflammatory activity of the T-cells in people with psoriasis.

We know that prolonged deficiency of the sun can cause skin cancer, but what about an excessive exposure to the sun resulting in sunburn? The thing is that excessive sun causes negative changes to the DNA (carrier of the molecular information), and these changes can also cause a skin cancer.

There are 3 types of the ultraviolet radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. The UVC radiation of the sun is mostly stopped by the ozone layer of the atmosphere and therefore does not reach us. UVC radiation is also practically not used in the tanning beds, neither regular nor special tanning beds for psoriasis.

UVB rays, similar to the UVB rays of the sun are often used in a special tanning unit for treating psoriasis. With the lack of a natural sun people with psoriasis often use such UVB units.

UVA rays, similar to those in the sun are often used in the regular tanning units. People without psoriasis in the winter months may indulge in visiting such solarium.

In each of these cases – tanning in the sun, tanning on a regular tanning bed or tanning on a special tanning bed for psoriasis – there is a risk of developing sunburn.

Sunburn is even more negative for people with psoriasis due to the so-called Koebner effect – the appearance of the new psoriatic lesions on the spots of the skin trauma.

What to do? Just like with anything, sun tanning has to be done in moderation. Moderate beneficial UV exposure should not turn into a negative excessive exposure.

Wise thing to do is to suntan carefully and for a short period of time, especially in the beginning. Depending on your skin type and color you may be able to suntan for longer or shorter amounts of time.

I hope this psoriasis article helps

Here is another article that you may find useful:

People with psoriasis enjoy sun tanning just as much as people without psoriasis, and usually even more. Not only the sun gives your skin a nice golden color but if you have psoriasis – the sun also helps you to temporarily get rid of your psoriatic plaques.

Some of us are lucky enough to live in the areas with a constant summer (Southern California, Southern Florida etc.). But the majority enjoys the sun only in the summer months. Some people with psoriasis not only take frequent vacations to the places with a warm climate, but even try to relocate there in order to keep their psoriasis in check.

Unfortunately, this does not pertain to the people with the summer type of psoriasis. The sun actually aggravates the state of their skin and psoriasis.

But what exactly is a suntan? Suntan is the reaction of the skin to the sun. Our skin tries to protect itself from the excessive sun rays by starting to produce more of the melanin pigment. The pigment melanin gives the skin its nuance – pink, brown etc. People with darker skin are better protected from the sun. They usually develop a nice even suntan. People with a fair skin, instead of an even suntan may develop sunburns and uneven pigmentation. This is due to that their skin does not produce enough of melanin to protect itself.

After stopping the exposure to the UV rays, the skin stops producing excessive melanin and returns to its usual color.

Excessive sun causes damages, starting with painful blisters and premature skin aging, and including melanoma – skin cancer.

It is a fact that people with the winter type of psoriasis can temporary get rid of their plaques with a regular timed exposure to the sun rays. But why does this happen? The thing is that the sun rays exterminate the excessive T-cells in the skin. And the T-cells of people with psoriasis are one of the culprits of psoriatic plaques. Furthermore, the remaining T-cells lose their ability to express the IFN-gamma cytokines, which play a big role in the inflammatory processes.

Does it make sense to suntan in order to get rid of psoriasis? I believe that it does. The benefits in this case outweigh the negative side-effects.

Most celebrities and other public people maintain their skin with a bronze hue year round. Why do they do it? Because tanned skin usually looks more smooth and healthy and shows less imperfections than pale skin. Don’t they know about the adverse side effects of constantly subjecting their skin to the UV rays? I believe that they do. But their looks are much more important for them as it directly contributes to their public image, fame and therefore profits.

People with psoriasis suffer from the unpleasant external manifestations of psoriasis. Will getting rid of these manifestations outweigh the side-effects such as premature skin aging? I believe so.

Simply try to be careful with sun tanning. Start to tan with short periods. Keep a record of how long you suntan in order not to burn. Moisturize your skin after each sun tanning. You may also want to see your dermatologist in order to start regularly monitoring the state of your skin while you are sun tanning.

I hope this psoriasis article helps

Presently genetic psoriasis theory is one of the most reliable psoriasis theories.

But genetic predisposition alone is not enough for the development of psoriasis. There has to be some kind of a trigger to start the mechanisms of psoriasis.

Let’s discuss what stress is, and what stress may cause in the genetically predisposed to psoriasis people.

Stress is usually a strong negative (rarely – positive) mental or physical experience, which causes various negative chemical reactions in our body.

These chemical reactions are capable of deteriorating the internal organs of our body, and causing various physical disorders as well as various disorders of the nervous system. Most of these disorders would never have surfaced, had they not been triggered by stress.

In the same way stress may eventually also trigger the pathological mechanisms of psoriasis disease.

Various studies have shown that stress is one of the most often psoriasis triggers in the genetically predisposed to psoriasis people — about 50% of the cases. Stress is also a major factor for the flare up of psoriasis — about 40% of the cases.

Therefore, it would be a prudent thing to do to try to avoid getting stressed, or to learn to relieve your everyday stress.

Mental stress may be often caused by losing your loved ones, losing your job, getting divorced etc…

Physical stress may be often caused by freezing, getting into a car accident, undergoing a major surgery etc…

Stress may also be caused by a positive experience, such as getting married or giving birth to a child.

In order to try to prevent psoriasis in the predisposed to psoriasis adults and children, or to better manage the existing psoriasis, I would advise you to screen your life or your child’s life for any possible causes of stress.

It is easier for an adult to find the possible causes of stress but it may be harder to do that for a child.

Here is the list of things you may want to look for in your child’s life:-Skipping meals;-Dressing improperly;-Having a conflict at school or in preschool;-Insufficient sleep or not enough rest;-Uncomfortable clothes or footwear.

By trying to eliminate stress, we may as well succeed in preventing psoriasis or improving the developed psoriasis. It is definitely worth a try.

Here are the most often symptoms of stress, both in the adults and in children:-Feeling down;-Headaches;-Fast heartbeat;-Nervousness;-Insomnia.

Thus, if you find anything that may be stressing you (or your child) you should try to eliminate it, especially if this turns out to have been a prolonged stress.

There are various relaxation techniques, which may help you in your stress management.

I hope this psoriasis article helps

Nowadays psoriasis still remains a riddle both to experienced dermatologists and to the psoriasis sufferers.

It’s believed that at the base of psoriasis, there lays a genetic predisposition. Some lucky person may live for her/his entire life without ever developing psoriasis. In the less lucky persons under the influence of a provoking factor, they will develop psoriasis.

What may serve as a provoking factor for psoriasis? It may be a stress, an intellectual over-strain, an infectious disease, bad diet etc…

Hypothermia may also become a provoking factor for psoriasis.

Hypothermia – the Low Temperatures.

What is hypothermia? Hypothermia is a prolonged lowering of the internal body temperature.

Hypothermia is a very dangerous condition, which may occur when a person is being subject to low air or water temperatures for a prolonged period of time. Hypothermia does not always occur in the winter. It may also occur in the spring, autumn, or even the summer. For example the body temperature of a child who has been swimming in cool water for a long time, may lower without him/her even noticing that.

The body temperature of a human is maintained through the so-called homeostasis — the mechanism which insures the stable internal environmental of our bodies. With hypothermia, the homeostatic systems will eventually fail to produce high enough heat levels in the body.

Hypothermia is very dangerous because it can lead to incapacitation, frost bite and even death in the worst scenario.

Even though hypothermia is not the most common trigger of psoriasis, it was known to trigger psoriasis in some cases.

Hypothermia is a threat for example for the survivors of a sinking ship. People in this case are subject to the cold waters until they are rescued. Water absorbs heat very quickly and therefore the body temperature of a person staying in cold water will start to drop very quickly.

In this case, hypothermia would also be connected with stress induced by fear. Such combination would especially be capable of provoking psoriasis in a genetically predisposed person.

Cryotherapy – the Ultra Low Temperatures.

Surprisingly, the ultra low temperatures are reported to be capable of treating psoriasis. Ultra low temperatures are used in the so-called Cryotherapy. Cryotherapy has practically nothing in common with hypothermia.

What is Cryotherapy? Cryotherapy is a treatment with the use of ultra low temperatures. Such low temperatures, as they use in Cryotherapy, cannot be achieved without special equipment. The usual temperature of the gas used in the Cryotherapy composes -150° Celsius.

The contact of the body surface with the ultra low temperatures with Cryotherapy composes only several minutes.

The skin temperature at the time of the Cryotherapy procedure lowers down to -2° Celsius. This provokes a potent stress on the skin and in the whole body. This type of stress is probably one of the only ones, capable of influencing psoriasis beneficially.

The irritating action of the Cryotherapy causes the mobilization of various impaired body functions, i.e. it may help to repair the skin affected by psoriasis. Cryotherapy is especially known to be effective for the treatment of the scalp psoriasis.

I hope this psoriasis article helps

In the case when there are no psoriasis lesions on the skin of a person, and only the nails are damaged with psoriasis, it is sometimes difficult for a doctor to make a correct diagnosis. Nail psoriasis often resembles a fungal damage of the nails. In this case it is helpful if the person knows of her/his family history of psoriasis.

Nail psoriasis that is mistakenly diagnosed as a nail fungus will not receive a correct treatment, which is why it is very important to achieve the correct diagnosis.

Here are the most common signs of nail psoriasis:

- Point hemorrhage of the nails – your nails in this case may resemble a thimble. The surface of the nail plates is covered with tiny grains or pits. This happens due to the loss of some cells on the nail plate.- Some of your nails may become loose and to partly separate from the place where they are connected to the finger. There will appear hollow white spaces underneath the nails. Usually these spaces first appear at the tip of the nail and then start progressing towards the root of the nail. These spaces will grow with time causing the nail to rise above the surface of the nail bed.- The skin underneath the nail may become thick. This also leads to the separation of the nail from the nail bed and to the raising of the nail above the nail bed.- There may appear a discoloration underneath the nail plate that resembles a blood or oil drop. It is usually of a yellow-red color.- Sometimes there may appear lines going across the nails. These lines appear due to the inflammation of the skin underneath the nail affected by psoriasis.- Sometimes psoriasis also appears on the skin of the finger right next to the root of the nail and next to the nail cuticle. The affected skin in this case looks like a usual psoriasis lesion – silvery-white scales on top of a red inflamed skin.- The nail affected by psoriasis usually becomes brittle, thick and starts crumbling. It is especially uncomfortable when the toe nails get affected by psoriasis.- Sometimes there may appear the so-called splinter hemorrhage – tiny black lines visible through the nail plate. Splinter hemorrhage appears when the capillaries on the tip of your fingers or toes bleed underneath the nail plate.

Due to the unhealthy state of the skin affected by psoriasis under the nail it may become infected with a fungus. Sometimes it happens the other way around – nail psoriasis occurs after a fungal infection of the nail.

With the correct diagnosis it is possible to treat nail psoriasis (with different degrees of success). Besides hormonal medicines and other drugs that your doctor may prescribe to you, there are some natural means that may help your nails to feel better.

Here are some of the natural ways that you can try at home:

- Try to eat more Calcium (milk, yogurts, cheese etc.) and gelatin. – Before going to sleep soak your hands in a tray filled with sea water (you can collect the sea water at the sea and store it in a large bottle in the refrigerator). – Before going to sleep soak your nails in warm vegetable oil (olive, sunflower etc.), herbal oil (chamomile etc.) or apply a plain fatty cream onto your nails and underneath of them.

I hope this psoriasis article helps
